Mathilda’s Birthday Play Date
Mathilda had a really sweet birthday this year. She met her very best friends for a art making play date at Art Mix Creative Learning Center. There the girls painted, made stick puppets and glued various odds and ends together. After we had lunch at Skeeters. The girls had a nice time and best of all I got to sit and talk with my friends Janie and Jill.

My friend Jill and I thought it would be a nifty idea to take Mathilda along with Hannah and Lily, Jill’s daughters and Mathilda’s closest friends, on a road trip to Dallas to go to the American Girl Store. The girls had a blast and it was pretty fun for us big girls too.
We arrived at the Westin Galleria in Dallas to find you can see the American Girls Store from the front of the hotel and it was only a short walk away. After a jump on the “Heavenly” bed and changing into their planned outfits we headed out to check out the goods.
Inside the store was every doll and every outfit! It was cool to see it all in person. The girls each had their doll’s hair styled. We allowed the girls to each bring one doll and limited them to 2 outfits. It was very hard for Mathilda to choose her purchases because the store was down right overwhelming.
My sister Cindy also met us there since she lives in Dallas. She joined us for dinner in the American Girl Bistro which is above the store. At the Bistro they have little clip on seats so your doll can join you for dinner. Surprisingly the food was not bad.
My sister had such a great time she treated the girls to eye glasses for the dolls and matching t-shirts for each of the girls and their dolls!
cool stuff, pictures, the kids | Comment (0)Willow & Moo and Dexter too
I have this friend, Sara, I have known forever, since I was 9. She moved to Australia over a decade ago. We both have a daughter and a son and she has become quite the seamstress. You can actually buy her handmade items at her Etsy shop, Willow and Moo.
Mathilda fell in love with these cool rainbow pants that Sara made for her a few years ago when she was visiting Texas. So recently we looked at her Etsy shop and Mathilda was drooling over a rainbow skirt and tie dyed dress, here is Mollie modeling the dress before it was shipped.
Sara meticulously hand dies all over her fabrics. There is a picture on her blog to prove it.
I asked her if she could make these things for Mathilda. Here is Mathilda modeling the skirt.
And you simply cannot put on a skirt without testing its spin factor.
She also sent this cute little felt barrette.
Here is the dress, the pattern of the dye is beautiful!
Of course Dexter had to get in on the photo session.
Thanks so much Sara!!
cool stuff, the kids | Comment (1)Off to camp!
Mathilda embarked on a major milestone today. We drove her out to Camp Agnes Arnold for her first stay at overnight camp. I think her dad and I were more nervous than she was.

Mathilda’s cabin
She chose a cot with windows on two sides and set up her fan to blow right on her bed.
Dexter was, at this point, beginning to understand that we were leaving Mathilda there.
He cried.
Testing out walking and using the hand held fan at the same time.
It is really hot here right now.
She had to take a quick swimming test.
She passed and received a wrist band that allows her to swim in the deep end.
This is an awkward moment but I just thought she looked really pretty.
Right before I took this shot I told her goodbye. She was like “yeah, bye Mom”.
She was obviously ready for me to go.
